The fast-growing tourism industry is eager to employ qualified individuals that can demonstrate a capacity for management. This programme has been developed through consultation with local and national employers and has been specifically designed with the needs of North East Lincolnshire and national tourism industry in mind. As a result, there is a strong emphasis on those particular skills that are in high demand in today's marketplace. The programme focuses on developing practical skills that will enable students to achieve both career and personal goals, in particular the opportunity to progress to the BA Tourism and Business Management Top Up degree at Grimsby Institute. All students undertake a work placement and strong links exist with companies in the USA, as well as many local positions.
Duration of Course:2 Years
You will need a minimum of 120 UCAS points or hold a relevant Access Certificate / Diploma with appropriate units. In line with the widening participation brief, however, the Institute will also encourage applications from students who lack formal qualifications.
International Students also require an IELTS score of 5.5 in all areas or a B2 equivalent English Language qualification

How is the course assessed:
Whilst on this programme students will be assessed using a variety of methods: individual and group based assignments (reports and essays), case study based assignments, assignments based on a 'live' project/event, the practical development of a product (hospitality), the design of a tour (tourism), the preparation of a business plan, individual and group presentations, closed book examinations, and the compilation of a self assessment plan. All assessment methods are designed to incorporate key skills which are transferable to the workplace.
Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue a new career, or advance an existing one within the Tourism industry. Some graduates will progress on to a final year of study in order to complete a BA Degree in this discipline. Graduates will be able to pursue a wide range of roles within the tourism sector such as customer service roles within tourism, marketing for tourism, sales, product development for tourism/tourist attractions, IT and administration. All of these roles can be either deployed nationally or internationally. Graduates will also be able to seek senior positions within the generic tourism industry within hotels, holiday resorts and cruise ships.
