FdA Business Management

This Foundation degree is awarded by Hull University

This course is designed to provide students with an in depth knowledge of business in both private and public sectors. The course will enable students to research and understand areas related to accountancy, personnel, marketing and general management.

This programme aims to enable students to gain a broad understanding of influences on organisations with the understanding of theoretical perspectives being applied to practical projects, either within an existing work environment or relevant work based setting. Students will also learn the skills required to be a successful manager.

The balance between attendance based and independent study varies from module to module

Entry requirements:

You will need a minimum of 120 UCAS points or hold a relevant Access Certificate / Diploma with appropriate units. In line with the widening participation brief, however, the Institute will also encourage applications from students who lack formal qualifications

International Students also require an IELTS score of 5.5 in all areas or a B2 equivalent English Language qualification

What you will learn:

The foundation degree in business management is split into semesters; there are two periods of study each year. The study patterns will vary and will depend on whether the student is full time or part time. The overall term starts in September and ends in June. The attendance patterns are fairly flexible and a variety of options are available.

How is the course assessed:

Whilst on this programme students will be assessed using a variety of methods: individual and group based assignments, reports, case studies, learning portfolios, examinations, presentations, problem solving exercises, work placement reports, reflective pieces and independent research projects. All assessment methods are designed to incorporate key skills which are transferable to the workplace.

Employment information:

Upon successful completion of this degree, graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to pursue a new career, or advance an existing one in the business industry. Some graduates will progress on to a final year of study in order to complete a BA Degree in this discipline. Graduates will be able to pursue a wide range of roles within the business industry from careers within marketing, finance, human resources to consultancy work in both profit or not for profit organisations. Furthermore, due to the nature of this programme, graduates can pursue a career in management in a variety of different industries, or start up a business of their own. Graduates will also be able to pursue careers in teaching in this field.
